Social proof
Social proof is the psychological phenomenon of people using others’ actions as proof of how to act in certain situations. In marketing and online visibility, social proof refers to indications that show that other people like and trust a product, service, or brand. The more people trust your brand, the easier it is to attract new customers, because they believe they are making the right choice by choosing your product or service. Some well-known examples of social proof are:
- 5-star customer reviews
- Testimonials or case studies
- Influencer mentions or expert quotes
- Live notifications (like ’10.000 customers came before you’, or ‘Sofie from Antwerp just booked’)
Social proof is prevalent on landing pages, product pages and advertising campaigns.
