SEO-Friendly URL
An SEO-friendly URL, aka Search Engine Friendly URL (SEF), is a URL that is easy to read for both search engines as visitors. Some web platforms use URL-parameters to structure a website. This is a common practice in ecommerce websites, for example:
https://www.domain.be/index.php?cat=clothing&subcat=trousers&brand=levis
By analysing the parameters in the URL, you can figure out that this page will show products in the category ‘clothing’, the subcategory ‘trousers’, and with the brand ‘Levis’. When restructuring this URL to be SEO-friendly, we can clearly see why both Google and its users prefer this type of URL:
https://www.domain.be/clothing/trousers/levis/
